What is mediation & conciliation?
A number of methods
can be used to resolve disputes short of going to court. An overview can
be found <here>. Among the most widely
used methods are mediation and conciliation.
Mediation. Mediation is a process in which the parties to a
dispute discuss their differences and seek a mutually beneficial solution.
A neutral facilitator helps the parties communicate, but has no authority
to impose a decision. The parties control the outcome.
Conciliation. Conciliation is collaborative process similar to
mediation though less formal. It can sometimes be conducted over the
phone.
Referral services For professionals. DRAM can refer disputes to conflict resolution
centers statewide whose mediators have training and experience in many
types of cases. These include disputes between coworkers, administrators,
government or social service agencies, public officials and citizens,
businesses and suppliers or customers, and family members. They may be
simple or complex, involving few or multiple parties and issues.
For
employees. DRAM can also help organizations obtain mediation and
conciliation assistance for their employees, clients, or constituents.
This could include referrals for disputes between consumers and merchants,
homeowners and builders, landlords and tenants, professionals and clients.
This service could be a useful benefit for organizations to provide to
those they value most. |
